"For a while I had looked for a small wallet for my travel card but the ones I had found were either made of leather or I didn’t like the style of, until I found a company I hadn’t heard of before: Thamon London.  I first came across the brand this summer at Bird Street just off Oxford Street in central London. They were part of the world’s first ‘smart street’ that showcases visionary technology. All their leather look accessories are made from tree fibres including leaves, flowers and bark. The best part is that they are ethically sourced, vegan friendly and 10% of the revenues are returned to the forester communities that harvest the leaves! 🙂

The founders started the company whilst at University of East Anglia and hoping to give a more ethical alternative in fashion that are made with renewable sources. The name Thamon was chosen for it’s meaning; “of pure and unspoilt nature” in Buddisth scriptures and in Greek it means “Bushes”.

Vegetable dye is used to give the products the different colours that you can choose from, however, I went for the green one as I liked the idea of it being the leaves’ actual colour. Most of the products have an added eco friendly, water resistant coating which is great if you would get surprised by a rain shower (something that isn’t rare when you live in London).

The accessories ranges from bags and backpacks to pencil cases and jewellery and when I went to their stall at Bird Street, one of the guys said they’re looking into making belts as well. I really recommend these products and there is a great initiative behind it, trying to create an alternative to leather so you can shop with good conscience and no animals are hurt in the process! 🙂
